To Have and To Hold

The paper bag — these once ubiquitous giveaways now provide us

A new wave to be added soon…

  • To Have And To Hold is a collection that was compiled as part of the Preston Polytechnic ephemera archive and housed in the Library, these once ubiquitous giveaways now provide us with a rare an timely insight into our relative recent consumer past.

Ranging from the early 70’s to the late 80’s the collection’s breadth and depth, from the local corner shop to the high street department store, is a reflection of a more innocent design era. An era of the logo type rather than the brand, the filo fax as opposed to the mobile, the fax machine instead of the internet and a time when the word virtual had not yet become a reality.

This colection is a celebration of these small insignificant pieces of paper and also to act as a permanent record.
